Tough Year for Transfers: 3% Acceptance Rate at Vassar

For the Fall of '08, only 10 out of over 300 applicants were offered a spot. This comes in the wake of pending plans to renovate Davison House, forcing Vassar into a housing crunch for the 2008-09 year.
The exceptionally low acceptance rate of 3% is unprecedented in recent Vassar history, and is beginning to resemble the single-digit acceptance rate commonly affiliated with the Ivy League Schools.
The implications of such statistics in the long term are unclear.
Please note that Vassar Admissions has yet to publish the official statistics of transfer applicants for 2008-09.

Long Time No See... And STRESS!
This is JEWETTGOSSIP reporting... ahem!My apologies for not posting on Blog9 for a very VERY long time! I have had a lot going on family-wise as well as academically.
But now I'm back!
I am glad to announce to you that....
In Jewett, there are people, yes people not a person staying up till 7 in the morning these days, writing papers to see the sunrise. Life during study week sucks huh? I finished 2 papers and still have 4 more and 3 exams to study for - great. Founder's Day was awesome but it really didn't help with the workload I have.
But I am real excited about this weekend. There's so many parties in various dorms tonight as well the the FARM RAVE! so excited! and it's going to go on till 6am?!? HOLY MOTHER OF COW!
I know how stressed out many of you guys are, I for one certainly am with 6 units of classes and A FREAKING CONCERT IN NYC on Monday arggggg! but take a break, go dance it out at the farm rave.
You know you need it!

All Because Seagull Hair Got Lost
Nobody opened the door. The EMS guy knocked again, and spit into his walkie-talkie “Can I get a conformation on that room number?” A rice-krispie voice said back “Josselyn, Rm#__, on the left side of the building.” Oops.
I waited for him to jog/flop (remember the seagull hair?) back down the hallway. But, he knocked again, this time opening the door. I assume no one was in the room because he stood there, halfway inside, while he consulted with the snap-krackle-pop voice again. All I heard was “10-4!” and then he was tumbling away from me repeating “Josselyn, Josselyn”. I debated calling out directions.
At any rate while this 5-minute long fiasco was amusing it also makes me wonder about the competency of Vassar’s EMS employees’. How could a non-freshman (I assumed) Vassar student confuse Jewett and Josselyn? Ok they both start with ‘J’ but for god sakes I was able to decipher “Josselyn” on the walkie-talkie and I was sitting 20ft away. Maybe the guy was new to the job (he did look particularly sweaty) but if you can’t handle pressure then don’t sign up EMS. Regardless of why the EMS guy was so confused the fact is that there was a possibly passed out (or close to it), sick or injured kid on the 4th floor of Josselyn who went without medical attention for longer than he/she needed to because seagull hair got lost.

Jewett Updates
1. Student Fellow Decisions for Jewett -- yes its been decided, and I don't wanna talk about it too extensively b/c it is still a sensitive issue for those that didn't make it. But the story goes, there is some dissatisfaction with the decisions made. According to my sources, all the decision for Jewett Student Fellows were discussed openly in this week's House Meeting. AND a name allegedly caught the attention of EVERYBODY -- no one expected him to get through to become a student fellow.
2. The beginning of this second half of semester is already seeing a lot of anxious/nervous freshmen constantly on the look out for a roommate. Although the degree of this possibly "friendship-deteriorating" phenomenon has yet to surface, hopefully no one is going to get hurt and everyone will stay good friends forever (cause that's the way it is in JEWETT!)
3. in less than 30 minutes, Jewett's first Study Break since Spring Break!!!!! It's an eating contest with real good food. Groups of five. I'm hell excited, gotta be there!
Enjoy your week everyone!

A Great Destination For Spring Break: Prague!
BTW, Czech make some AWESOME beer... if you thought Germans were the only ones that could brew beer, think again. That cream of mushroom soup and a big mug of beer goes so well together (I'm not promoting underage drinking of course, but drinking age is 18 in most places outside the U.S).
there's so much sightseeing and shopping to be done in Czech.
Damn it, I wanna be there again, RIGHT NOW.
Gd luck on your mid-terms everyone, and happy Spring Break!

Seven Deadly Sins -- A Scandalous Night
Allegedly a freshmen (male) was observed by several to have hooked up with a student fellow (male). This culminated in a disputed argument about what the boundaries are between a freshmen and a student fellow.
In addition, there was also a loud screaming on the 2nd floor of Jewett during this event that caused the arrival of several securities to the spot. However, there was nobody in sight, and is believed to have been a scream intended to draw attention away from a pre-gaming occurring on the floor.
Seven Deadly Sins was a night full of EMS action, some intense dancing as well as college drama. Nevertheless, it generally received the recognition afterwards as a party that was "well planned, and brought students together."
